Legal notices
Plain statements about what we are and are not.
Please read these before you engage us. They are written to be understood, not to be skimmed.
1. Truthworks is not a law firm
Truthworks Reentry Project is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. We prepare documents and records; you sign and file them. Only a licensed attorney can advise you on your legal options.
Truthworks Reentry Project is owner-managed by a non-attorney. Truthworks does not practice law, does not furnish counsel, does not represent any person before any tribunal, agency, or facility, and does not employ attorneys to advise clients. No communication with Truthworks creates an attorney-client relationship. Where a document prepared by Truthworks carries a legal conclusion, that conclusion is reviewed by, and travels under the name of, a licensed supervising attorney. Our model is shaped by the unauthorized-practice-of-law statutes of Georgia (O.C.G.A. § 15-19-51), Illinois, and Wisconsin (Wis. Stat. § 757.30), and we follow them as written.
2. Statement under 28 C.F.R. § 542.16(a)
Federal regulation 28 C.F.R. § 542.16(a) provides that no person may submit a Request or Appeal on the inmate's behalf. Truthworks does not submit, file, transmit, or sign any administrative remedy request, appeal, statement, or grievance for any person in custody. Truthworks prepares documents. The person in custody reviews, signs, and files each document personally through the channels the facility provides. Truthworks may assist the person in preparing a request or appeal in the manner the regulation permits, and does nothing beyond that.
3. No guarantee of outcome
Truthworks makes no promise, guarantee, or prediction about the result of any hearing, appeal, grievance, records request, or any other matter, and makes no promise about any sanction, finding, expungement, placement, program, or release date. Any turnaround time we state (for example, 48 or 72 hours) is a commitment about when we deliver our prepared documents after receiving the records we need. It is not a promise about what happens after the person files them. Anyone who promises you an outcome in a federal disciplinary matter is not being honest with you.
4. Privacy notice

6. Monitored communications warning
Communications with a person in custody — facility telephones, TRULINCS or other facility email, video visits, and postal mail — are monitored, recorded, or read by staff and may be shared with investigators, hearing officers, or prosecutors. Nothing sent through those channels is private or privileged. Every document Truthworks prepares is written to be read by staff. Truthworks never sends privileged or attorney-facing material through a facility channel. Do not discuss the facts of an incident, the person's account, or strategy on any monitored line. Where a matter may carry criminal exposure, Truthworks routes the matter to counsel before preparing anything the person would sign about the facts.
